EU funding for your trademark applications

Receive reimbursements of up to EUR 1,500 for your trademark application.

The EU currently supports trademark applications for small and medium-sized enterprises. There is a recovery plan for this after the pandemic.

1. What is being funded?

On the one hand, a Preliminary diagnosis intellectual property rights are promoted, and there is a discount on the registration fees for trademarks and designs.

Above all, the last point is for trademark applications at the DPMA Interestingly, the German authorities do not currently offer any preliminary diagnosis.

2. What should be done?

To receive funding, please note the following:

  1. Funding is possible during the relevant period.

An overview of the funding periods can be found under the following Link.

The third time window is relevant here:

But here, too, it's worth acting quickly: Funding will only be available as long as funds are available. Once these funds are raised for the respective time slot, the only option is to apply for the next time slot. Therefore, it's first come, first served.

  1. The funding is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises. The prerequisite is, for example:

– The registered office is in the EU

– Annual turnover is between EUR 2 and 50 million

– The small or medium-sized enterprise has between 10 and 250 employees

A guide to the requirements can be found here: https://ec.europa.eu/docsroom/documents/42921

To do this, proceed as follows:

After submitting your application, you will receive a financial aid decision. You can then apply for your trademark registration within 30 days. You will initially pay the costs upfront. However, up to 50% of the costs, or a maximum of EUR 1,500, will be reimbursed retroactively after the reimbursement application has been submitted.

Please note that you can only submit one application per time slot. If your application has already been funded through other EU grants, you cannot claim this additional funding.
