Scam: EUIP Intellectual Property Organization Service

March 12, 2020Trademark law

Attention: When registering an EU trademark with the EUIPO, there is currently free spam on top:

EUIP intellectual property organization service

Please do not pay!

The EUIP – Intellectual Property Organisation Service is currently sending payment requests to companies that have recently registered a trademark with the EUIPO, the European Patent and Trademark Office.

What is it about?

The letters of formal notice mention the recently registered trademark and a sum of €1,380, which the entrepreneur is to transfer to a bank account in Turkey at Burgan Bank AS.

It states that this is needed for "Registration and Reproduction of the Community Design" (what the hell is that supposed to mean?). The money should be transferred "within 8 days."
